Mark your calendars for the 8th Annual Uncork the Uplands, the signature event of the Indiana Uplands Wine Trail and AVA (American Viticultural Area). For one night only on Saturday July 28, 2018, wine lovers can enjoy a taste of all nine southcentral Indiana Upland Wine Trail wineries, paired with an exquisite farm to table dinner crafted by Hoosier native and award-winning chef David Tallent, and set in Oliver Winery’s Creekbend Vineyard. Guests will have the opportunity to explore the Indiana Uplands’ unique terroir firsthand, learn the art of winemaking from award-winning producers and sit amongst the very vines where the area’s finest wines are grown. Taste new and classic varietals, and take home a bottle or two of your favorites to relish at home.

A Bloomington, IN native, chef David Tallent studied at the Culinary Institute of America in New York and worked in New York and Atlanta before returning to his hometown in 2003 to open Restaurant Tallent. Under the guidance of David and his wife Krissy as head pastry chef, the restaurant operated around two goals – help local farmers and serve a distinctive cuisine blending Midwest ingredients and old-school culinary methods on a seasonally changing menu. During their 12-year run as one of Indiana’s premier restaurants, Restaurant Tallent received numerous accolades: nine-time James Beard Award semi-finalist, a AAA four-diamond rating, mentions in The Chicago Tribune, Saveur Magazine and many more. Today you’ll find chef Tallent running exquisite events out of the kitchens of Indiana University’s Traditions Catering.

The Indiana Uplands Wine Trail is located within the Indiana Uplands American Viticultural Area, a federally recognized grape-growing region established in 2013. The trail wineries include Best Vineyards Winery of Elizabeth; Brown County Winery of Nashville; Butler Winery of Bloomington; French Lick Winery of West Baden Springs; Huber’s Orchard, Winery and Vineyards of Starlight; Oliver Winery of Bloomington; Owen Valley Winery of Spencer, Turtle Run Winery of Corydon and Winzerwald Winery of Bristow.

Established in 1965, Creekbend Vineyard’s hilltop location and well-drained limestone soil creates an ideal environment for growing wine grapes that produce signature varietals such as Traminette, Chambourcin and Catawba, as well as rare offerings like Crimson Cabernet and Cabernet Dore. Encompassing 30,000 vines on 54 sprawling, sun-kissed acres, Creekbend wines have gained a national reputation for taste and quality. Like Creekbend, the vineyards of the Indiana Uplands wineries have won the hearts and minds of wine judges and wine writers across the country.

Uncork the Uplands will take place on July 28, 2018 from 5:30-9 pm Eastern at Huber’s Orchard, 19816 Huber Rd, Borden, IN 47106. Tickets are $125 per person (plus tax), and include a cocktail hour and multi-course dinner artfully paired with wines from the Indiana Uplands Wine Trail wineries. An all vegetarian option is also available. Tickets are limited.
